TOMORROW: CONGRESSMAN MAXWELL FROST TO JOIN MEMBERS OF CONGRESS AND HOUSING ADVOCATES TO CALL FOR AN END TO HOMELESS DETENTION CENTERS
TOMORROW at 2:00 PM EST
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 2, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost (FL-10) will host a press conference with Members of Congress and housing advocates to highlight the No Homeless Detention Centers Act, legislation to stop federal housing dollars from being used to force people experiencing homelessness into shelters, camps, or other detention-like facilities against their will.
The legislation would also prohibit federally funded facilities from requiring people experiencing homelessness to perform labor as a condition of receiving shelter or punishing people for basic life-sustaining activities like sleeping, resting, eating, drinking, or protecting themselves from the weather.
Congressman Frost will be joined by Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01), Congressman Troy Carter (LA-02), Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03), Jesse Rabinowitz, National Homeless Law Center, and Setareh Gandehari, Detention Watch Network to discuss the legislation and the need to ensure federal housing dollars are used to help people find permanent housing and stability—not punish people for being unhoused.
